Robert Foley produced his first commercial Merlot in the 1976 vintage when it was about as well-known as Charbono is today. After several years of trying to convince folks to give it a try, its popularity grew and eventually snowballed. Like its Cabernet cousin, Merlot grown in well-drained soils can develop profound expression and firm structure.
Tasting Notes: The Foley Merlot is a Merlot for Cabernet lovers. All Merlot, but more wine than a lot of Cabernets! Aromas reminiscent of red currant and cassis couple with an insinuation of chocolate. The midpalate is rich with sweet fruit flavors that resolve in a gently gripping finish.
