Renato Corino Barolo Del Comune di La Morra 2017 750ml
The 2017 Barolo del Commune di La Morra is a stellar wine in its peer group. Rich, ample and deep, the Comune offers tons of sheer appeal. Sweet red plum, kirsch, mint and spice build in a beautifully layered, expressive Barolo. There is some firmness in the tannin, but nothing a year or two in bottle won't take care of. Drink 2022-2037.” – Antonio Galloni
Light in colour, explosively juicy in stature. Renato Corino’s Barolo del Comune di La Morra is loaded with strawberry crumble, freshly squeezed cherries, raspberry jam, dried herbs and a pinch of spice. One to squirrel away for game, truffle and wild mushroom seasons. As Antonio Galloni – the respected Italian wine expert behind Vinous – is always quick to note, this wine has a bright future ahead of it, so it’s worth popping a couple in the basket, one for now and one to watch age gracefully.
After 20 years working together on their family estate, the Corino brothers decided to go their separate ways and split the vineyards in two. Renato built himself a new winery, and with his children, Stefano and Chiara, creates wonderful wines in La Morra, the highest area in Langhe where Barolo is produced. They have just eight hectares of vineyards – a hectare being roughly the size of a rugby pitch – and from these they make eight wines. Once the locals have taken their bite of the minuscule production, and then the other seventeen countries they export to have received their allocation, there is very little left for the UK. So, we’re proud to have secured a rare handful of cases from Renato Corino.
